Ohio Athletic Conference

While working for Capital University Athletics, the conference in which they competed was the Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC). The identity of the conference is tired and many agree that an update is in order, counting myself as one of them. I decided to create a new logo for them as a personal project to see what I could do to bring the conference into this decade. The OAC is the third oldest collegiate athletics conference in the U.S. Established in 1902, the organization has had high profile members like The Ohio State University, University of Cincinnati, Xavier University, Bowling Green State University and a few others during its 119-year existence. The conference climbed as high as 24 members once upon a time but is now a group of 10 that competes at the NCAA Division III level.

The new logo concept is a cleaner and more modern look. The block letters are concurrent with an athletics feel and give the look a bold appearance. I decided to carry over the 10 stars from the old to the new as it is still a good nod to the 10 member schools and was an important element in the prior logo that deserved inclusion. I also kept the strong color scheme of the black and yellow that has been the identifier for the conference for over 20 years. Aside from the logo itself I also designed sport specific conference championship logos and OAC TV which houses all member school game broadcasts to watch on-demand.

I really hope the the OAC decided to rebrand themselves soon, even if it isn’t my design!
