Ohio State Sport Management Association
I earned my Master’s degree from The Ohio State University and while in my program, I was a part of the Sport Management Association (SMA). I was elected the Media Chair of the association which meant that I headed up all communications efforts for the group. All was left up to me and the first project I created was a series of “Student Spotlights” to highlight the members of the graduate program.
The big overarching event put on by SMA was an annual Silent Auction held at Huntington Park where the AAA baseball club the Columbus Clippers play. I was also tabbed to lead the marketing for that event, creating all print and digital assets, coordinating outreach to boost attendance and building social media attention with a planned content schedule. The event was a resounding success as we raised a record sum of money for the program to allow the graduate class to fund career and business development opportunities.
It was a unique experience to both try and build a following for a niche graduate program and also build enough buzz around the silent auction to make the efforts worthwhile. All in all, everything was a resounding success as the group’s following grew almost 2.5x across social media platforms and the silent auction set a new record for the program.
